Reports
Reports are written analyses of the COMPASS ID data on one question, for example how many species in a plant group have been studied, prepared for policy meetings and for citation. Each report has a version number and a date, and its figures are the values measured on that date. The atlases show the current values.
The method used to put subject tags on a paper a researcher adds to their profile: an expert panel over the same codebook the atlases use, a requirement to quote the supporting words, and an independent judge.
Includes how the accuracy of those tags is measured, what is deliberately left untagged, and how a correction by the paper’s own author is counted.
39,052 accepted species in Orchidaceae, Apocynaceae and Lecythidaceae, assessed against Targets 4, 20 and 21 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
29,018 of the 39,052 species (74.3 percent) have no paper in the indexed literature whose title or abstract names the species or one of its checklist synonyms.
From the series Research coverage of the world’s vascular plants, 2026 to 2030. Prepared for the seventeenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, Yerevan, 19 to 30 October 2026. Version 1.0, released 16 October 2026.
Every figure in a report is produced by a script in the COMPASS ID repository and checked against the database before release. Each report states the census, the harvest date and the measured accuracy behind its numbers.
